Part 1 : Gabbie & her Flu
~Anonymous~
For the past 1+ week, Gabbie had been flu-ish. She caught the bug from her Grandpapa who loves to kiss n hugs her .. O.o”
Poor her.. she had bad runny nose. But luckily for us, apart from that she wasn’t Feverish. But instead she had a slight inflamation to her throat which caused her to loss her appetite. =(
Instead of her usual Gluttony self.. she had actually rejected her milk. She would suck some and then stop, turn and twisting her head in protest. We suspect its because of her throat discomfort.
This got us kinda worried; so we brought her to see our family GP, Dr. Babitha. After some diagnosis and checking, she was prescribed to take a flu (Polaramine) and fever (Paracetamol - to help reduce her throat inflamation) medications.
This is her 2nd round of flu.. the 1st time was roughly a month ago when she is 2mth old+. That time it(the Flu) cleared pretty fast; in 3 days. We feed her the medications with the syringe provided during her feeding time.
The Tactic that we used that time involves :
1. Bottle fed her with milk when she is hungry. 2. Pull out the milk, pump the pre-measured medication via syringe into her mouth. 3. Stuffed the milk nipple into her mouth (Pronto!), and get her to gulp down her milk with the medication.Sounds pretty simple right? If it worked a month ago.. it should work now!. Thats what we thought.. -.-” We couldn’t have been more wrong. Nothing is predictable with this little vixen.. She really really dislikes the taste of the medications.
We tried numerous times to get her to take the prescribed meds and following is a record our attempts & its outcomes Y.Y :
Attempt I : Suck& Pump method
1. Feed her the milk when she’s hungry 2. Pull out the milk, pump the pre-measured medication via syringe into her mouth 3. Before we can feed her the Milk again.. - she screwed her Eyes, wrinkle her nose & Gag! - In protest, spit out ALL the medication -.-* 4. Finally in a fit of anger, SCREAMED for her milk! OUTCOME : MISSION #1 FAILEDSIGH.. so we decided to leave it be and try again on her Next feed.
Attempt II : Pump & Seal lip
1. Let her suck on her milk, lift her up so she is in a recline position.2. Pull out the milk, trick her to open her mouth & pump the meds into her mouth
3. Quickly held her jaw & lip tight and leaving her no room to spit the Meds back out (At least.. thats the Idea ) 4. She struggled a bit and manage to squirt some of the medication out from the corner of her lips, but we held firm for another 5 secs to make sure she swallowed the medication. 5. After 5 seconds.. Finally we let go. And before we can give ourself a pat on the back.. she SPIT the rest of the meds right back out. (Apparently she didn’t swallow it.. she just lead us into thinking that she did by being quiet and placid =_=” )
OUTCOME : MISSION #2 FAILED
OK OK Fine! The little lady MUST have her medications; so no more playing Nice. We decided to let her continue with her milk while I pre-measured her doses of medication again for our 3rd attempt. So halfway thru feeding we decided to give it a go again, this time using a slightly different tactic #2.
Attempt III : Pump & Seal lip#2
1. Let her suck on her milk, lift her up so she is almost in a upright position.2. Pull out the milk, trick her to open her mouth & pump the meds into her mouth
3. Quickly held her jaw & lip tight for longer time than the previous attempt, tilt her head back to force her to swallow.
4. This time she really don’t like it and struggled fiercely against us. She kick her little legs and flails her arms.. after some time she seems to have really swallowed the medication so we let go.
5. We waited.. no spitting of medication out like the previous times.. YAY!!! BUT.. The next thing we know is.. she regurgitate out the medication along with the rest of the milk that she had drank.. ALL of it!! @.@” It soaked her shirt and make puddle of milk stains on our bed…
6. As we were frantically trying to make sure she’s OK and trying to clean up the bed. … SHE then GRINS at us .. as if saying ..”GOTCHA!! Thats was you get for force feeding Me.. Nyeh~! ”
OUTCOME : MISSION #3 FAILED
