Continuation from Part I :  Gabbie and Flu

————————————

As a result of all these failed attempts.. we finally resort to our final trick =  Milk Cocktail.  The idea is to mix in all the medications into her milk and feed it to her during her feeding session.

We really had wanted to avoid doing this because we’ve heard from many reliable sources that it may not be a good idea because :

1.  The baby may pick-up the taste of the medication and refused to drink the milk
2.  The baby may drink the milk+medications mixture halfway then refused to finish it..thus rendering the medication intake inaccurate (the baby not having the correct amount of measured medications)
3.  in a more drastic situation, baby may reject the milk (with or without medication) ALTOGETHER!

SO.. as EXTRA precaution, we split her normal milk consumption into half-half ratio.  1 with Meds & the other; Milk ONLY.   Jee would start off by feeding her the Milk ONLY portion, and halfway through we switch and give her the “Cocktail” version.. and when she’s done; let her finished up with the Milk ONLY portion again..to wash away the taste of medication ..

Well at least that what we thought might work.  And Guess WHAT?? She drank both the Milk &  ‘Cocktail’ with no fuss and finished everything up!

IT WORKED!! Hurray!! :D

This went on for about a week (because her runny nose stubbornly refuse to clear..! ) After the 5th day, we noticed that she is drinking well and decided to stop giving her the Paracetemol and continue with the Flu med only..

That particular session..she straightaway rejected the “Cocktail” ..

AHA!!   .. SO it was the Flu (Polaramine) medication that she didn’t like afterall.  Because after we add in the Paracetemol (Orange flavour) into the same “Cocktail” mixture.. she finished It to the last drop.

SIGH.. now a NEW dilemma~

So that night, we decided to bring her back to the clinic to seek 2nd consultation for her pro-longed flu.  We brought up the issue to Dr. Khaira and he told us we have to stop giving her the Paracetamol as she doesn’t need it anymore. He assured us that she is perfectly OK and sometimes the Flu may linger longer that usual..

So to tackle the feeding(taste-wise) problem, he prescribed us with another compatible Flu medication to try out.  The new one(Piriton) smells much nicer (mummy & daddy both agrees it smells yummy!  :P) .. compared to the Polaramine ‘cherry-cough-mixture-like’ taste.

We make a mixture using this new flu medication during her next feed and Much to our relieves, she takes well to this new medication.

Which caused another problem..

She likes it TOO Well.. because after a few feeding sessions.. she now preferred the “Cocktail” version to the Milk only..!  She would now finishes her cocktail mixture and refused to finished her Milk-only portion!!

GOSH~  our Baby is W E I R D !!   @.@”

HAHAHAH!!!

Lucky for us.. her flu gradually cleared so she is now back to her normal self..  Life somewhat is back to normal.. at least until a next adventure comes along.  ^_^
